Stones Throw Records is releasing one of the best albums of the past decade as a 45 Box Set this January, celebrating the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop producers, J Dilla. In the year before his passing, J Dilla completed what is now the legendary Donuts album, which began as a demo beat tape in the summer of 2005 before exploding into a full-length release that quickly claimed the title as one of the hip-hop world’s most classic albums. J Dilla’s production talent also made a strong impact on the music of many other great hip-hoppers of our generation, including A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Tha Pharcyde, and Slum Village, so its only fitting that this box set include the bonus tracks “Signs” and Doom & Ghostface’s “Sniper Elite and Murder Goons,” which were originally recorded over Dilla’s beats back in 2005. This box of Donuts contains 8 7-inch singles in a special edition box set, complete with theme-inspired slipmats. The pack is available for pre-order now from Stones Throw’s site and it will release January 7, 2013. The site also offers up “The Diff’rence” complete with attached “Donuts Outro/Intro”, which dates back to the first original sequence of the album.
