You’re looking at the first official shots of the Nike Zoom Kobe VIII System, which was unveiled yesterday in Los Angeles by the man himself. During the presentation, Kobe broke down the key design aspects of his latest signature shoe, which is the lowest and the lightest of all 8 of his namesakes. Weighing in at 9.6 ounces and packed with performance technology, including a full-length Lunarlon sole and a 3-D anatomical heel counter, Kobe and lead designer Eric Avar sought to create a shoe that effectively acts as an extension of your foot. The shoe’s interesting upper design is inspired by Kobe’s alter-ego, The Black Mamba, which just so happens to also take on additional significance with the upcoming Year of the Snake from the Chinese Zodiac. The Black/Sulfur version of the shoe won’t launch until December 20th; however, beginning December 4th, you can customize your own Kobe 8 using the NIKEiD system, but you will have to wait until the 20th for shipment. Another python-inspired colorway will also be available in Greater China to mark the new year, beginning January 12, 2013, before making its way to North America on February 2, 2013.
