Ron English has developed a reputation as one of the controversial artists to emerge from the 1990’s. Taking commonplace ads, characters, images, and concepts, English then raises the stakes in order to bring attention toward underlying cultural issues, just as he did with the Fat Tony Figurine we featured back in January. The result is what some call “Agit-Pop,” which is the use of pop culture icons and music to promote a particular perspective and of which English describes himself as the “Master of POPaganda.” His latest endeavor, however, is not so controversial with the bringing together of a FLüD watch with English’s take on the world’s most popular martial arts reptiles, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Each features an over-sized face with a TMNT graphic and a graffiti-style logo on the band. The launch is also joined by the release of four graphic Tees carrying a similar motif.
