We hear phrases such as conflict diamonds and conflict minerals, and these words are closely associated with the continent of Africa and the countries within it. Russian made assault rifle, AK-47, is renowned as the weapon of choice for militants, rebels and guerrillas in Africa, producing unwanted deaths and murders on an unprecedented proportions. Fonderie 47 was set up to collect the abandoned AK-47 rifles from Africa, bringing them back to the US. The assault rifle is melted down to bare metal and reused to make fine jewelry pieces.
