Steeped in blood, gore, and sexual innuendo, television series Game of Thrones will be returning to HBO‘s line-up on March 31, 2013, though there will be a new accompaniment to this third season. In the tradition of medieval fantasy, Brewery Ommegang crafted a special blonde ale in the show’s honor.
An effort between HBO and Ommegang’s Brewmaster Phil Leinhart, the ale took its name from the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Description of the blend’s flavor is much like the character Daenerys Targaryen, played by actress Emilia Clarke. “Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance” said Leinhart, “it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.” The first of three brews inspired by Game of Thrones, the Brewery Ommegang Iron Throne Blonde Ale retails at around $8.50 and will be available around mid-March in both draft and 750ml bottle form.
