Next year, Nike‘s Air Max line will have been around for 25 years, first hitting the streets back in 1987 with the timeless Nike Air Max 1. It seems like an obvious concept now, but what Tinker Hatfield did by replacing the typical all-foam rubber sole with an air unit was (and still is) pretty ground breaking in what it has done for the longevity and weight of sneakers. And now, almost 25 years later, the look has become a staple footwear design concept in both running and casual circles. But, never one to rest on their laurels, Nike uses this milestone as an opportunity to reinvent the model once again by introducing engineered mesh, making them even more breathable and light, as seen on this Nike Air Max+2013 and many of the looks they have cued up for January 2013. Nike marks this transformation with an animated trip to their factory so we can get an idea for how the whole process is handled while also giving us a few highlights from over the years. Check it out after the jump.
