The knives were out in the wake of the February 2011 trade that saw the New York Knicks pay a steep price to acquire Carmelo Anthony — namely, four starters and three draft picks. The grumbling would escalate into an outraged roar when the trade failed to deliver immediate dividends. Roughly two years later, the Knicks are one of the NBA’s elite teams, and the noise emanating from Madison Square Garden is usually exuberant cheering. It’s a good time to be Carmelo Anthony, who’s emerged this season as arguably the best scorer in the NBA. His teammates laud his maturity and growing leadership abilities. To top it off, Jordan Brand is set to debut the ninth installment of Melo’s signature shoe.
The Jordan Melo M9 has a classic basketball silhouette with Dynamic Fit straps with Flywire technology, integrated with the laces to provide additional support and a unique look. Lateral stability comes courtesy of a TPU cage, while a Nike Zoom unit in the forefoot and heel offers responsive cushioning. A Phylon midsole supplies even more lightweight cushioning, and a herringbone patterned outsole is good for enhanced traction. Personal touches take the form of Melo’s jersey number on the toe box; his logo on the tongue and heel; nine perforations below the laces to symbolize his ninth signature shoe; and his signature on the outsole. Look for four initial colorways of the Jordan Melo 9 to launch in stores January 9th.
