In conjunction with today’s official launch of the Melo 9, Jordan brand has released a short film, “Playing for the City That Made Me,” exploring the profound connection between Carmelo Anthony and his New York City hometown. As Melo intones at the start of the video, “You’re not just representing yourself, you’re representing New York.” It’s a theme explored by NYC icons like former Knick Bernard King and the rapper Nas. At the same time, the documentary is a deeply personal look at Carmelo Anthony‘s formative years in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, featuring interviews with Melo’s brother, mom and childhood friends. They revisit the neighborhood court where Melo first started shooting hoops, and reveal that he used to even sleep with a basketball. Check out the video below.
