Civic leadership, social stewardship, community involvement… these are just the few things Black History Month stands for. In recognizing these essential qualities, the month-long observance, as well as the impact sports bring to society as a whole, Nike will be celebrating the 2013 Nike Black History Month Collection with a familiar mantra, “Be Bold. Be True.”
Additionally, this coming BHM marks the 150 years since President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to end slavery in America, which facilitate a special meaning to the month. Because of its importance, Nike expanded this year’s BHM Collection to seven footwear and a line of sportswear apparel. This includes the KD V, LeBron X, and Kobe 8 System, all from Nike Basketball, an important cornerstone to the collection. Each adorned with a weave-pattern motif in colors black, grey, brown, and a dash of metallic silver, all in reference to the theme of African art. Finally, hints of orange to highlight the design as well as its connection to Nike.
Set to debut court-side during NBA’s games on Martin Luther King Jr. tribute day next Monday, January 21, the collection will be available on January 26 with sales proceeds to help charity organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
