Since the variation on display at the Detroit Auto Show was that much closer to the final product, Acura executives refrained from the term “concept vehicle” in their description of the 2014 Acura MDX. Instead, the design fitted squarely in the category of “prototype”. In now its third iteration, Acura made some cosmetic alterations on the vehicle, most notably the addition of LED headlights also known as the “Acura Jewel Eye“. Designed around the theme of “Aero Sculpture,” the sleek new body doesn’t just take on a more aggressive stance but increases aerodynamic efficiency by 16 percent. The new form, which is somewhat reminiscent of the new Honda CR-V, also adds more interior space. There are now more legroom for second-row passengers while access to third-row seat is much easier.
Driven by an all-new, direct-injected 3.5-liter i-VTEC SOHC V-6 engine, with Acura’s Variable Cylinder Management, the MDX leads fuel efficiency in its class though plenty of performance is on standby till you need it. Already one of the safest SUV with 5-star Overall Vehicle Score by the NHTSA and IIHS, Acura will providing additional safety components such as Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Blind Spot Information, Lane Keeping Assist System, Active Cruise Control, and more… Not forgetting about comfort and convenience, Acura also added access to SMS text messaging, Cloud-based Aha by Harman connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, Pandora, and slew of high tech features.
Comfortably seats 7-passenger, the redesigned 2014 Acura MDX Prototype will be available in either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive variants. Scheduled to appear at an Acura dealership near you in Fall of this year.
