Though Raf Simons‘ early collections showcased an imposingly cool and dark aesthetic, the Belgian designer has revealed a romantic undercurrent in his later looks. They were certainly evident in Simons’ Paris runway show for Fall/Winter 2013, highlighted by looser silhouettes, unbuttoned French cuffs and soft colors, mitigating the severity of the black A-line overcoats. That dandyish sensibility extended to the bags the models carried, representing the fourth installment of the designer’s collaboration with EASTPAK. The brand’s iconic backpack is retooled with silky jacquard exteriors and satiny belts, the minimalist construction enhanced with blind hems and hidden stitching. Finished in both striped and solid variations, the collection is scheduled to launch at select retailers in June.
