Riccardo Tisci isn’t presenting a couture collection for Givenchy in Paris this week. Instead, he channeled a couture sensibility in presenting the label’s Fall 2013 menswear collection, featuring futuristic tailored looks that did away with collars and lapels. A monochrome aesthetic was ever-present, extending to floral prints and an inverted stars and stripes motif on plush knitwear. “Everything related to America but in a very dark way,” Tisci disclosed, explaining that he had been obsessed with American culture since he was a kid. That darkness was conveyed in an argyle sweater vest emblazoned with a pentagram, and traditional sportswear looks accented with crude stitching and plenty of shiny black leather.
