Norwegian-born artist Remio is emblematic of a new breed of artist who has been able to successfully transition from tagging on the streets to showing in the galleries. Remio rose to fame on the back of his sunglasses-wearing tag character “R” whose expressions and characters have evolved along with his style, but in this upcoming new body of work – “Man in Transition” – there will be a new star. Portrayed by his balloon-shaped creation and supported by dozens of others, Remio explores the range of human emotions and moods using simplistic, but real facial expressions matched with vivid color and a drippy theme that reflects fluidity. The show will be hosted at the Guerrero Gallery in San Francisco beginning with an Opening Ceremony on Saturday, February 2, from 7-11pm while his works will be on display through February 25th. Given the dire state of funding for arts education in public schools, perhaps cities everywhere should continue to see the graffiti artists like Remio in a new light.
