In the run-up to its re-release, the crew over at Crooked Tongues is taking a prolonged look back at the origin of the classic Nike Air Huarache OG. During the course of their fact gathering and analysis, they turned up these wear test samples from 2005, a seeming Huarache redux boasting a number of technical benefits. There’s the breathable open mesh, screen-like side panels and sock-like neoprene interior, as well as the molded heel strap and Mayfly-like cutaways on the lightweight outsole. It’s all finished in a colorway that recalls its 1990s forebear, representing an intriguing “what-if” that could have enlivened the sneaker landscape in the mid-aughts.
