Wherever there are waves, there are guaranteed to be surfers. From the US to Asia, Africa to South America, surfers can be found worldwide. A surfer’s biggest tool is their surfboard, which recently fell under scrutiny by Sustainable Surf, a non-profit organization pushing Eco-friendly mentality in surf culture and industry. ECOBOARD Project is a sustainable surfboard program aimed at bringing awareness about the toxic impact the surfing industry has on the environment and offering an alternative to traditional surfboards. Supported by Quicksilver, this program is the first benchmark for showing whether a surfboard was made by ECOBOARD Project-approved shapers and laminators. At the moment, there are 17 businesses that participate in this program, with hopes of extending the awareness to many parts of the world.
