Tokyo’s Yuka Tsuruno Gallery has announced the opening of “Prose,” its first solo exhibition by the New York-based artist José Parlá. Acclaimed as a storyteller and visual diarist, Parlá’s paintings are a catalog of his travels and experiences, oftentimes featuring calligraphic script superimposed over fragmentary city walls. His work can be viewed as shambolic collages, materially translating the artist’s reminiscences of visited cityscapes. The exhibition will feature paintings on canvas, as well as a 15-meter mural that Parlá created exclusively for the show. “Prose” is set to open on March 21st and will run until May 18th — be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.
