With the menacing appearance of a weaponized gear of war, The Flask is the latest specialty product from Scotch whiskey distiller The Macallan and eyewear specialist Oakley. Created for single-malt aficionados or enthusiasts of things well designed, the concept first came to be when Ken Grier, Director of Malts at The Macallan, visited Oakley’s bunker-like headquarters. After a requisite tour of the facility and rounds of fine whiskey tastings, Grier asked Oakley’s CEO, Colin Baden, to “engineer” a state-of-the-art hip flask. With that request, The Flask was born.
Welded by laser and made from carbon fiber, aerospace-grade aluminum, and food-grade steel, The Flask illustrates Oakley’s prowess in industrial design. With details like a rubberized bottom for grip or the removable aluminum funnel specifically designed to reduce spillage during refill, no variables were overlooked. Even the cap was properly distanced from the mouthpiece for a smoother open/close action.
Available now either as one of the 550 limited collector’s sets, each with The Flask and a bottle of The Macallan 22 Year All American Sherry Oak Scotch, or as a stand-alone item through The Macallan’s online store for £600 GBP ($910 USD)
