Representing BMW‘s first foray into the burgeoning European electric bike market, the Cruise e-bike weighs in at 44lb (20kg) and has a pedal assist capable of 25kmh with a maximum range of 85km. It’s powered by a 250W motor by Bosch, located under the bottom bracket, and a lithium ion battery mounted on the down tube. The Cruise is equipped with disc brakes and four modes of assistance, ranging from Eco to Turbo, as well as a detachable computer that displays speed and battery life. Torque sensors can sense when the rider is producing extra effort on hills and deliver more power to maintain consistent speed. BMW is set to release just 1,000 Cruise bikes, all going on sale exclusively in Germany.
