Previously, shoes in the Nike Air Max series leveraged their design to showcase the main feature of their exterior — the iconic Air Max bag. Now with the introduction of Engineered Mesh, the new innovation opens up the aesthetic possibilities. The material can be constructed with either tight or loose perforations for a more flexible and breathable upper, while eliminating the need for stitched panels and color-blocked panels. Consequently, Engineered Mesh is a virtual blank canvas for Nike designers. The resulting “Beaches of Rio” pack finds those designers turning to the tropical coastline of Brazil for inspiration, featuring vivid colors drawn from the sand, water and exotic birds from the region. They’re used across four flagship models from the Air Max line — the Air Max 1, Air Max 90, Air Max 95 and Air Max 97 — all constructed with Engineered Mesh. Check out detailed looks below, and expect the Nike Air Max “Beaches of Rio” pack to hit select Nike Sportswear retailers in April.
