As part of its ongoing “Artist Driven” series, Lifted Research Group (LRG) presents a video profile of Greg Simkins, aka CRAOLA. He was born in Torrance, California, in 1975, to a household that included a menagerie of animals, stylized versions of which now appear regularly in his artwork. The video finds Greg working on a wildlife-themed painting, part of his upcoming solo exhibit for the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles, as he discusses 20 years of creating under the CRAOLA name. Greg charts his humble beginnings to the place he’s at now, weighing his own artistic vision against what he thinks people will want. Answering his own question, he admits “I usually just paint what’s in my head.” Check out the video below.
