Designer Karl Lagerfeld has been around long enough that he can be considered something of a style institution, but his Parisian apartment denotes nothing but gleaming modernity. Located in an 1820 building on the Quai Voltaire in the arty Left Bank, the space is the result of two and a half years of renovation. The resulting rooms are airy and light, appointed with glass and metal furniture finished almost exclusively in neutral shades. A spacious living room is lined with retractable glass walls containing just some of Lagerfeld’s personal library (said to number 40,000 books in total), while the kitchen is all polished stainless steel, including a pair of futuristic storage cylinders from colette. Plenty of natural light and an old-fashioned quilt on the Kaiser’s bed offer mitigating factors against the overwhelming cold sterility of the space. Check out more looks below.
