In the Q & A, the robots discuss the challenges they faced in making the album — Random Access Memories, due for a May 17th release — even as they disclose that many of of the hurdles were self-imposed.
Making this album was difficult and challenging in an exciting way, but that is the nature of these empirical musical experimentations. We tried to do some things we had never done in a studio. They also discuss the highlights of their recording process — like working with childhood hero Nile Rodgers — and expand on recent press interviews in which the duo laments the current state of electronic dance music, a genre they helped bring to the mainstream.
