Advertised not just as a new gaming console but an evolutionary leap forward in the home entertainment system, Microsoft unveiled the XBOX ONE at its Redmond, Washington headquarters an hour ago. While executives are still taking turns presenting all the innovative features, here are some of the more notable ones. Not just the console itself, engineers at Microsoft re-designed the familiar controller and updated the Kinect peripheral too. Replacing the now-defunct HD-DVD drive, the new system will have a Blu-ray drive instead with 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and USB 3.0 ports. Connectivity comes in the form of 802.11n Wi-Fi protocol. Capable of voice activation and control, Microsoft also added Skype video calling feature and SmartGlass, an optional tablet device that functions like a secondary touch screen controller.
