Having used Jamaican influence in prior collections, Supreme is paying tribute to a Reggae pioneer in their latest collaboration. Lloyd “Bullwackie” Barnes founded Wackies back in the 1970s in the Bronx having been inspired by the likes of Duke Reid and Coxsone Dodd. Wackie’s studio holds a significant place in Reggae history for having produced a distinctive sound using unique equipment and recording methods. Horace Andy, Sugar Minott, Wayne Jarret, Love Jays, Itopia, and Chosen Brothers are just a few of the acts that worked with or were developed by Wackies Studio. In the late 1970s, “Wackie’s House of Music” was founded and it became more than just a shop. Located next to the studio, the store became a sort of home away from home for Jamaican artists in the New York area. It was here that these artists would collaborate, build, and create beautiful music. In celebration of Wackies’, Supreme is releasing several t-shirts, tanks, and hats all featuring original imagery and artwork from the studio’s history. The collection will be available at Supreme NY, LA, London locations as well as online on June 6th, while Japan releases on June 8th.
