With the world’s most successful soccer franchise looking to defend its Premier League Championship title later on this year, Nike Soccer officially unveiled the new Home Kit of Manchester United F.C. for the 2013-2014 season.
Created from recycled polyester, all derived from around thirteen used plastic water bottles, the new Manchester United Home Kit not only reduces waste but also lowers energy consumption by 30% versus traditional manufacturing methods. One other benefit is its weight. At 150 grams, it is 23% lighter than previous Nike Soccer kits yet 20% stronger in terms of durability. Along with innovative features like Nike Dri-FIT design to wick moisture, laser-cut ventilation zones to maximize air circulation, and bonded T-bars in reinforcing easily wear areas, the new kit also includes a Nike Pro Combat baselayer for impact protection.
The most striking element, however, would be its black buttoned-down shirt collar, a homage to player Eric Cantona, who wore the iconic #7 jersey before David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo. Tailored with three buttons at the front, one on its back, and a tonal black-and-grey gingham check pattern underneath, the collar harks back to Manchester’s industrial past as a textile center, which once produced the classic check fabric. There is also a small “devil with a pitchfork” insignia reflecting a sense of MU pride. To complete the new home kit, Nike Soccer added a new Manchester United shorts in white with a thin black stripe. To complement, the home kit’s socks are black appointed with both white and red stripes.
