On Saturday, June 8, 2013 the second round of the Red Hook Criterium Championship Series makes its way to the Brooklyn Navy Yard. For the uninitiated, “the Red Hook Criterium is a world renowned nighttime bicycle race that is contested over 26 laps of a technical circuit.” This is the second RHC Championship event for NYC this year. The first was held on March 24th in Red Hook, BK, to a crowd of 4,000 with 350 competing athletes. And it was cold.
This is an all day event that includes a tour of the Crit circuit, Crit qualifying rounds, a men’s and women’s 5k, and the Crit itself. All free to the public. The ongoing competitions throughout the day coupled with artist designed backdrops, international fans, food vendors, live entertainment, and local pop-up shops make RHC more than your average race, but a cultural event for all of NYC.
