When VANS and New York-base retailer DQM opened their first collaborative retail concept, The VANS DQM General, in New York City’s trendy neighborhood of SoHo, many of us knew success was imminent. After all, you will be hard-pressed to find a complete range of VANS products, as well as goods from special projects, through any other retailers. After their first retail foray back in September 2011, the two partners announced yesterday of an expansion to Beantown… Boston, Mass.
To be located on 174 Newbury Street, nicknamed as the “Rodeo Drive of the East,” the 1,200-square-foot storefront will feature top-tiered products from VANS, along with an assortment of exclusive merchandises from DQM and co-branded collections curated by owner Chris Keeffe. With a decor reminiscence of New England’s industrial past and old school skate shop, the Boston store also marks a sense of homecoming for VANS. Though known to be a California-base company, VANS actually got its start in the Greater Boston area by brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren of Braintree, Mass., along with friend Gordon Lee. The trio had worked at the original Randolph Rubber Company, then one of the country’s largest shoemaker, before heading West in 1964 to revive the company.
The VANS DQM General Boston is located at 174 Newbury Street and set to open next month, in July 2013. Meanwhile, check out the recap images from the VANS DQM General New York’s grand opening back in 2011 after the jump…
