Tuesday, June 4, 2013 marked the release of bass virtuoso and Brainfeeder artist Thundercat’s (aka Stephen Bruner) second solo album “Apocalypse”. Co-produced by Flying Lotus, the LA-based Thundercat churns out a unique sound of soulful RnB vocals and cosmogrammic space inspired jazz, a sound familiar to followers of Flying Lotus’ recent work and the two previously released collaboration tracks from the pair, “Oh Sheit It’s X” and “Heartbreak + Setbacks”.
Bruner paved his way as “a member of the legendary thrash punks Suicidal Tendencies,” and solidified his place as an elite bassist showcasing his skill as an elite bassist featuring on productions with Erykah Badu, Sa-Ra, and Flying Lotus.
This follow-up to 2011s “Golden Age of the Apocalypse” highlights Bruner’s talents that stretch beyond the bass expertise he’s become known, as a composer, song writer and producer. If you’re currently enjoying the futuristic sounds of “Random Access Memories,” this is one extra step in the direction of trippy.
The MP3s are available for download today; the vinyl will release on July 9th. In the meantime, enjoy the music.
