Apple Introduces iOS for Cars

Recognizing that commuters spend an inordinate amount of time in their cars, Apple has unveiled iOS in the Car, an iOS 7 feature that enables the iPhone 5 to display some of its essential functions through the car’s multimedia system. According to Apple, iOS in the Car “seamlessly integrates your iOS device — and the iOS experience — with your in-dash system,” allowing the user to “easily and safely make phone calls, access your music, send and receive messages, get directions and more.” The driver can either use the car’s controls or give verbal commands to Siri, which can read iMessages aloud and transcribe your spoken responses. Automakers announced as providing iOS in the Car number a dozen: Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Kia, Hyundai, Volvo, Jaguar, Infiniti, Acura and Opel.
