Leica X Vario – Fixed Zoom Lens Digital Camera with APS-C Sensor

By - June 11th, 2013

Dubbed as the “Mini M” by press officials at Leica, the new Leica X Vario compact digital camera inherited much of the same constructs as the famous Leica M camera. With a body machined from magnesium and aluminum alloy, along with a premium leather trim, the Leica X Vario is almost indistinguishable from its larger counterpart in both weight and feel. Yet, noticeably smaller, the Leica X Vario boasts as the world’s first to fit a APS-C image sensor and fixed zoom lens into a compact camera system.

Featuring a 16.5 megapixels CMOS image sensor in APS-C format and a fixed Vario Elmar 18-46mm lens, or an equivalent range of 28-70mm. To reduce the camera’s overall footprint, Leica did away with the viewfinder as well. In its place, a 3-inch LCD display with 920,000 dots resolution. The new Leica X Vario also includes a Full-HD video function, capable of capturing 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 full frames per second videos.

Quipped with the same intuitive controls as on the Leica M-System and creative options found in Leica X2, the Leica X Vario addresses the needs of photography enthusiasts everywhere. The new Leica X Vario is available now through all Leica dealers, including the new Leica Store in SoHo, with a retail price of £2,150 GBP or approximately $3,340 USD.
