Just months after introducing their innovative new cushioning system, BOOST, adidas has just announced another new running shoe that the brand claims will literally put more bounce in your step. Dubbed the Springblade, the design features 16 plastic “blades” that stand in place of the usual midsole that work together to spring back with each step to propel a runner forward. The concept has been six years in the making, with adidas designers working hard to provide one of the highest energy returns of your footstrike power on the market. And, unlike even their own BOOST, the rebound isn’t just in the vertical direction; the blades are different sizes and directions/angles that are “tuned” to account for your body mass (men vs women) as well as their position on the shoe. While the blades underfoot are definitely attention-grabbing, they will also be energy-grabbing with a weight almost 3 ounces heavier than their Energy Boost technology. If you want to feel the bounce for yourself, the Springblade will be available beginning August 1st for $180 at adidas retailers nation-wide in colorways for men and women.
