Today Nike is in Kevin Durant‘s hometown of Seat Pleasant, Maryland (just outside of Washington, D.C.), to launch the sixth installment of Durant’s signature shoe. For those of us not on location for the event, we get a preview of the KD VI through the following images and video, narrated by Durant himself. We learn that the low-top has a design inspired by KD’s hometown, as well as the precision craftsmanship of a watch. Just as a watch operates with meticulous movements, so too does the KD VI move with Durant’s fluid style of play.
The fine-tuned performance benefits include a new tongue construction for superior fit; ultra-thin two-layer upper with Flywire for lockdown support; Hyperfuse construction for comfort and breathability; Nike Zoom in the forefoot for responsive cushioning; Max Air unit in the heel for maximum impact protection; and data-informed traction for non-slip control. Special design features take the form of an optical illusion logo on the tongue, revealing “35” and “6” in negative space, while the introductory colorway is inspired by the Seat Pleasant Activity Center in Maryland, Durant’s home away from home. Finally, the six-sided hexagonal pattern on the outsole gives the nod to No. 6 in the Kevin Durant signature series, enhanced with an intricate pattern designed around an imprint taken from Durant’s foot at the Nike Sports Research Lab. Look for the KD VI to launch globally at all Nike Basketball retail locations on July 3rd.
