In order for Detroit Lions‘ Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson to be great on the field, he needs to be even better off of it. And to help him with this process, Nike has just released his own signature training shoe, the CJ81. Complementing his on-the-field footwear, the CJ81 is built to get Johnson through his grueling training sessions focusing only on his work, not his gear. With details like Nike Max Air cushioning, a lightweight proprioceptive ankle collar, and a dynamic midfoot strap, each inspired by insights taken directly from the way he trains; as he put it, “…my cleat should be built like a sports car for game day – low and lean with a tight suspension so I can feel the ground. But my trainers should feel like an SUV — a comfortable ride for my long training days that doesn’t sacrifice performance and protection.”
Two colorways play off of CJ’s prep school days at Georgia’s Sandy Creek High School with the motto “From Good to Great” written on the inside of the strap as well as a second dubbed “The Opening” after Nike Football‘s own event. Look for the “Sandy Creek” colorway to launch on June 29th and “The Opening” edition to release on July 10th at Nike Store locations and at select Nike accounts.
