Best known as a clever product tie-in with the 2011 anime motion picture Appleseed XIII, the CITIZEN Eco-Drive Satellite Wave Watch was the brand’s first attempt to incorporate the new SEIKO GPS time-sync technology (same as the SEIKO Astron GPS Solar Watch) among the CITIZEN‘s product line. At the time limited to just 990 units around the world, the watch also became one of the most talked about timepiece during BASELWORLD 2011.
This coming September, the Satellite Wave watch will be available once again as part of CITIZEN 2013 Timepiece Collection. Now known as the CITIZEN Promaster Eco-Drive Satellite Wave Air, the new design carried over the same electric green index on black design theme as the 2011 version. The similarity ends there, however. CITIZEN Promaster Eco-Drive Satellite Wave Air now features the new CITIZEN H909 movement, a derivative of the original H990. Though both movements still use the 30 or so NAVSTAR GPS Satellites to accurately and automatically adjust time, the newer H909 movement can receives its satellite transmission in just 4 seconds thanks to a new antenna design.
Powered by CITIZEN’s Eco-Drive solar power dial, the CITIZEN Promaster Eco-Drive Satellite Wave Air is water resistance up to 200 meters and automatically adjust time to 26 cities around the world. It also features a perpetual calendar, 24-hour counter, and power reserve on its various sub dials. Comes in Super Titanium version, one with DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating, and a 500-unit limited titanium with pearl-white finish edition, the CITIZEN Promaster Eco-Drive Satellite Wave Air watch line will be available in Japan starting on September 4th, 2013.
