A lot of footwear launches put the focus on the athlete in the place they are now, full of glitz and glamour and plenty of media-staged events to match. For the release of his latest signature shoe, the Nike KD VI, Kevin Durant instead goes back to where it all started, his hometown of Seat Pleasnt, Maryland. Joined by his family, friends, and plenty of his fans and neighbors, KD visited his hometown rec center to shoot a few hoops on the same court that he spent countless hours on as a child. The trip down memory lane continued with visits to his grandma’s home (where he calls home), the outdoor courts at Fairmount Heights, “The Hill” that helped to build his stamina and strength, and his favorite restaurant, Keith & Sons Soul Food. All these stops are not only important to KD’s development, but also the design of the KD VI, its apparel line and NSW release. Launching globally tomorrow, July 3, the KD VI in navy, teal, and yellow plays off the colors of Durant’s hometown Rec Center.
