If the A.P.C. Spring/Summer 2014 Menswear collection incites a bit of nostalgia, you’re not alone. The Creative Director, Jean Touitou, has revisited fashion’s archives and resurrected the styles that have since lived in infamy: Geometrically patterned sweaters channel the 1980s fixation with knits; leather bomber jackets with linen sleeves are a reprise on the 1950s trend; and slogan-laden t-shirts circa the late 1990s cleverly re-write the acronym “A.P.C.”. Although the underlying motive of collection ridicules past styles, the overall affect of the pieces is actually quite smart. Basic staples such as the denim jean, the relaxed t-shirt, and the white, button-down shirt give the campaign weight and (scold us if you must) we’re even smitten with the one-zie jumper outfit made of a cool, gray textile and zippers.
