This time, instead of trying to take over a specific segment of the auto market, BMW is seeking to create a whole new one. Using their latest concept, the BMW Active Tourer, the brand creates a new kind of cross-over that appeals to drivers in the premium market that also enjoy getting out to enjoy nature's bounty. It features BMW's new eDrive hybrid system, which includes a turbocharged 1.5L three-cylinder engine combined with an electric motor, with the former sending power to the front wheels and the later sending power to the back. Combined, they produce about 190 horses and the electric lithium-ion battery can power the concept up to 18 miles without using gas. In addition to classic BMW looks for the grill and overall footprint, the Active Tourer includes new technology like a multi-functional instrument display and a "Cool Shade" panorama roof that can adjust the amount of light that enters the interior with a touch of a button. You may have also noticed the bespoke Gold Race Orange colorway and the built-in two-bike carrier in the back that is made to not affect the interior storage space. While there are no plans for the Tourer to hit production anytime soon, you can bet that BMW is integrating these design features into their other upcoming toys.
