It wasn’t all too long ago that parts of New York City looked exactly like a scene out of the 1979 film The Warriors. A cult classic with an accurate portrayals of New York’s mean streets then, the story had members from the fictitious The Warriors street gang battled their way across NYC to Coney Island. As a way to truly replicate the “raw feel” found in the movie, W Hotels asked http://publicschoolnyc.com” target=”_blank”>Public School designers Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow to create eight custom-made denim vests through their http://blackapplenewyork.com” target=”_blank”>Black Apple brand. Each a complement to the “music battle” aspect with participation from Grandmaster Flash, The Drums, Todd Terry, The Virgins, to St. Lucia, Chrome Sparks, Dirty Projectors and more… The collection brings a certain edginess to the event along with telling the backstory of how the Big Apple used to be. The Black Apple’s W Gangs of New York Denim Collection is now available exclusively through W Hotels across New York City.
