First announced earlier this year, the collaborative project between Korean electronics giant Samsung and fashion designer Alexander Wang is finally available. Dubbed the Wallie Gym Sack, the drawstring backpack was also the first fashion accessory to be designed through a crowd-source process. The initiative started back in February of this year when Wang asked friends, stylists, photographers, artists, and other influencers to submit sources of inspirations through their Samsung GALAXY Note II Smartphone. With the various sketches, photos, patterns, even “doodles,” Wang rendered each idea further to create a one-of-the-kind illustration, which was then transferred onto the unisex leather bag. “The abstract print really captures the energy of New York City,” explained Wang, “This collaboration is a great example of how technology and style can come together in an unexpected but really meaningful way.”
Made with 100% calfskin and retails at around $550 USD, proceeds from the sale of each Samsung x Alexander Wang – Wallie Gym Sack goes to benefit Art Start, a New York City-based non-profit entity which organized creative workshops for at-risk children and youth between the ages of 5 – 21. Available now for a limited time only through Alexander Wang’s boutiques worldwide and the label’s online store.
