What made the 2006 CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 “Kiss of Death” so impressive at the time was, in part, its special packaging. In line with its traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and Qi Gong design theme, the collaborators from CLOT and Nike thoughtfully crafted a shoebox that looked every bit like a traditional Chinese medicine box. The imitation was so accurate, in fact, that some still mistake it for the real thing today.
As a follow-up, the two design teams have once again created a unique packaging for the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP. Set to be available this weekend as a China-only release, designers followed the original “traditional Chinese medicine” theme and re-fashioned the Nike Air Max 1 SP shoebox into a classic Chinese tome. Covered in lush grey felt and finished with “Air Max One” designation written in Chinese calligraphy-like font, there are no hints of its content till you fold away the first cover. Beneath it lies a Nike Swoosh cutout covered in open mesh, much like the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP’s upper.
Similar to the 2006 edition, only a handful of these special boxes will be available to those purchasing the CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP this Sunday, thus, making them even more exclusive than the already rare edition. You can find them through CLOT’s JUICE Shanghai store, Nike Huahai flagship, and Nike X158 Shanghai retail concept. A global release should come later on this year.
