There are songs of the summer. Summer blockbuster movies. And even summer concert series that come to define a particular year. In the auto industry, it just may well be the year of the Audi Quattro, which we first caught wind of a couple of months back. Audi has just unveiled an updated Sport Quattro Concept ahead of its official debut at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show, refreshing a look that was first introduced back in 1984. Of course, the Quattro was brought back to life toward at the end of 2010 in the form of a concept that never did make it to production, but Audi has different plans for this bright yellow ride. Keeping the same large hexagonal front grille, new taillights, and air inlets on the side panels, the 2013 take includes just as many upgrades inside and under the hood as its exterior body picks up. In addition to 21-inch alloy wheels and aluminum and carbon fiber body parts, the Audi is also aggressive under the hood with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 TFSI engine producing 560 HP and 516 lb-ft of torque paired with an electric motor that produces its own 150 HP. Combined, this Audi can hit 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of just over 189 mph – and that’s on top of the fact that it can run for 31 miles just on electric power. Inside, however, is a different story. Drivers will find a clean, crisp interior with chrome accented instruments and accessories. Overall, pretty impressive figures all around. Now we’ll just have to wait one more week to learn more.
