The legend of the Cronut has surpassed foodie circles to become a national phenomenon, commanding crazy long lines while provoking pastry chefs the world over to wonder “Why didn’t I think of that?” Created by chef Dominique Ansel and available only at his namesake SoHo bakery, the Cronut is a croissant/doughnut hybrid, introduced in May 2013 and soon to be transformed for a special Shake Shack collaboration that benefits two non-profit organizations: the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association Widows and Children’s Fund, providing aid to families of NYPD officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, and the Madison Square Park Conservancy, dedicated to maintaining the historic public park. The special edition Cronut Hole Concrete, featuring Shake Shack’s butter caramel frozen custard blended with three cinnamon sugar Cronut holes, along with a Cronut Hole on top, will be available on September 17th starting at 10 am EST at the Madison Square Park Shake Shack. There will be 1,000 special “Concretes” available, with a limit of two per guest. Additionally, chef Dominique will greet fans and help serve concretes from 4 to 5 pm Be sure to stop by if you’re in the area.
