While the world is still trying to wrap their mind around the fact that SpaceX is actually happening and is working with NASA to provide cargo deliveries to the International Space Station, Elon Musk is already on the next stage of mind-blowing innovation: 3D rocket design. If that sounds very Iron Man-esque, that’s because Musk can literally control, grab, rotate, zoom, and tweak the SpaceX components simply by waiving his hands. True to his Tweet a couple of weeks ago, in the video after the jump, Musk demonstrates how the full CAD model of the Merlin rocket engine can be manipulated if the user is wearing special glasses in 3D. Understandably, Musk believes his team is on the verge of a major breakthrough in design and manufacturing, being able to take something from your mind, to concept, and then translate that immediately to printing in titanium. While individually the technology and concepts are not new, the combination and integration of the components is certainly an innovation worthy of the Musk fingerprint.
