Marc Jacobs Leaving Louis Vuitton to Focus on Namesake Brand

By - October 2nd, 2013

Sixteen years of fashion design and innovation for the House of Louis Vuitton couldn’t have been any sweeter thanks to the creative genius of Marc Jacobs. Sadly, the style savant with the Midas touch announced at the end of the Louis Vuitton Spring 2014 runway show that he will be leaving LV to focus on his namesake brand. Having earned the CFDA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 for his exceptional work with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, it would be an understatement to say that there will be some pretty big shoes to fill with Jacobs’ depature. Rumors are currently buzzing that Nicolas Ghesquière of Balenciaga  may take his place, but the decision is still up in the air.

Jacobs’ career with Louis Vuitton spans almost two decades of beautiful ready-to-wear pieces, inspired monogrammed handbags, and indulgent travel trunks that evolved from a minimalistic aesthetic to a now marvelous, over-the-top opulence of glitz, glamour, and gold. Jacobs has made such an impression on the brand that the only direction it can move is up. And while we will miss seeing Jacobs’ magical ability to reinvent Louis Vuitton with every new season, we look forward to his future endeavors.
