One-eyed, bespectacled and egg-shaped, Darcel is a character created by Australian-born artist Craig Redman when he first moved to New York City. Darcel would become the device through which Redman would comment on the minutiae of city life, showcased in an illustrated blog called Darcel Disappoints. At the time, Redman wanted to depart from his intricate illustration style; consequently, Darcel would emerge as a simply rendered character that the artist could bring to life with little effort. He’s seen shrugging in a new print entitled “Never Knot,” the sixth in an ongoing series of specially commissioned screenprints for Art & Sole. Printed using four separate (water-based) inks, each print is a limited edition of 50, emboss stamped and signed and numbered by the artist. “Never Knot” prints are available for purchase here.
