After KAWS’ Companion statue literally “passing through” the landmark Philadelphia 30th Street Station earlier this year, the Brooklyn-based artist is making a second visit to the “City of Brotherly Love” once again for a comprehensive solo exhibition. Simply known as “KAWS @ PAFA,” the event is to take place at Philadelphia’s Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). A cultural institution that functions both as a museum and an art school, PAFA’s best known for works from masters of the 19th and 20th-century will serve as an interesting juxtaposition to KAWS’ modern and street art-esque creations. Over 60 of KAWS works will be on display, including a new 9 3/4 tall sculpture titled Born To Bend that will be installed at the museum’s front entrance.
A private reception for the exhibit will take place tomorrow, with general viewing to start this Saturday, October 12th. “KAWS @ PAFA” will by on view for the duration of this year till January 5th, 2014.
