We surf. We IM. We Tweet. We are constantly wired. Our culture is a never-ending circuit of digital information that we cannot escape, so we don’t even try. But within our sick obsession of being plugged-in, there is a beautiful vulnerability that aches to be recognized, which is precisely what the artworks in the NY Art Department’s YOU ARE HERE EXHIBITION aim to divulge.

Together with Pointer, the NY Art Department presents a fascinating group exhibition featuring the works of ten artists from various movements of new media art. The pieces display a cross-section of Internet culture while questioning the impact of technology on the type of art we consume. YOU ARE HERE also resonates with our inherent need to be free amongst conflicting factors such as, What is freedom exactly and can we actually choose it when our love for technology and the Internet constantly control us?

Artists participating in the show include Big Egypt 2020, Jason Ciocci, Josh Reames, Kathy Grayson, Phillip Stearns, Rick Silva, Ryder Ripps, Thomas Pregiato, Trudy Benson and #BEENTRILL#. Expect a good show with some pretty heavy thoughts. The exhibition will take place starting tomorrow at The Hole NYC on Bowery.
