Samsung Galaxy Round Worlds First Smartphone With a Curved Display

Samsung has taken the wraps off the Galaxy Round, the world’s first smartphone with a curved display. While the device uses Samsung’s flexible screen technology, the phone itself doesn’t actually flex or bend. Rather, the 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen is built with a slight curve to offer a “comfortable hand-grip feeling.” And with the Roll Effect, users can simply tilt or roll the device on a flat surface to check for missed calls, remaining battery life and more. Added convenience also comes courtesy of “one-hand operation features,” which bring a number of settings to a preferred side of the screen. In terms of the specs sheet, the Galaxy Round runs Android 4.3 with 3GB of RAM and a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, and packs a 2800mAh battery and 13-megapixel camera. It launches tomorrow in South Korea in an introductory “Luxury Brown” color, with retail set at 1.09 million won (about $1,013). Stay tuned for word of a possible international release.
