Performance apparel brand Under Armour has fixed zippers. At least that’s the ambitious claim that accompanies the introduction of the Magzip, an innovative zipper featuring a re-engineered clasp and magnets at the ends, allowing for easy one-handed zippering. The idea for the Magzip came to engineer Scott Peters as he witnessed his uncle struggle with myotonic dystrophy, a disorder that affects strength and coordination to the point that even buttoning or zipping up a jacket becomes nearly impossible. Approximately 25 prototypes later, Peters perfected a magnetic hook-and-catch that properly aligned, and the final version was patented and licensed by Under Armour for a new line of apparel set for release in November. Check out the introductory video below.
