Lil Wayne is growing his global presence as he announced his first international partnership with French label wize&ope at the brand’s flagship concept shop in Paris last week. Weezy stated, “My personal style, as well as my everyday lifestyle, has always been about individuality and being open minded, I was drawn to wize&ope because of their amazing design, fresh packaging and their support of individuality. I’m excited to bring wize&ope watches stateside and inspire their future collections.”
Having been founded in 2008 by Victor Louzon and later incorporated by Benjamin Bettane, wize&ope is a company that caters to and is inspired by hip-hop and pop culture, streetwear, and action sports.
Their namesake is drawn from fictional characters “Wize”, an alien visitng our planet looking to experience Earthly culture, and “Ope”, short for open minded, is his companion and guide on his journey. Known primarily for their watch offerings, the brand has started to expand into several other categories including toys, apparel, and sunglasses.
Being a longtime fan of the brand, Wayne took it to the next level by recently becoming a major shareholder in the company in a deal brokered by his managers, Bluerprint Group co-CEOs Cortez Bryant and Gee Roberson, and Efe Ogbeni of World Passport Mgmt. Amongst Wayne’s responsibilities is to act as the Brand Ambassador for their watches when the brand hits stateside in February 2014.
